Arahama Elementary School, Japan
Shinborihata-32-1 Arahama, Wakabayashi Ward, Sendai, Miyagi 984-0033, JapanApril 2022:
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Hiroshima Southeast (Tonan) and the Sendai Minami Rotary, a special planting ceremony was held on 16 April by the Arahama Elementary School in Sendai. The school is now conserved as part of the memorial ruins of the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011. GLH co-founders Nassrine Azimi and Tomoko Watanabe as well as Master Gardener Chikara Horiguchi and Trustee Yuko Baba attended this moving event.
GLH offered two saplings of Japanese hackberry (enoki) and three saplings of Ginkgo (icchou) for planting. Around the Hiroshima saplings, yamabuki grown in Sendai were planted, following the Miyawaki Planting Method, a unique afforestation technique pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki.
