Marking August 6 2026, the annual Survivor Tree Ceremony was held at the San Diego Botanic Garden in California, USA. The annual event commemorates the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, sharing the message of peace carried by Hiroshima’s survivor trees. SDBG staff and visitors alike reflected on the legacy of the survivor trees and their message of hope, resilience, and peace.

GLH warmly thanks the San Diego Botanic Garden team for organizing this meaningful annual event and for continuing to promote peace through the care of Hiroshima’s survivor trees.

We are delighted that our seeds have finally arrived safely at San Diego Botanic Garden, GLH regional hub. Seeds are now settling comfortably in the SDBG's seed bank under the expert care of GLH focal point, Joe DeWolf, Habitat Restoration Program Manager, who has been lovingly raising many Hiroshima saplings.

A big thank you to Hiroshima Botanical Garden (HBG) for sending the 2025 batch of seeds to our regional hubs, the San Diego Botanic Garden (SDBG) and the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE). Pictured left, Joe DeWolf receiving the precious package.
