 November 2020:

Thanks to Hiroshima survivor Hideko Tamura-Snider and the ‘Sunny Day Initiative’ as well as the unstinting support of the Oregon Department of Forestry, the southern Oregon city of Talent, devastated by a September wildfire, is the 32nd city in the state to plant trees grown from seeds of Hiroshima’s hibaku jumoko trees (see article at https://www.kdrv.com/content/news/Peace-Trees-planted-in-Talent-as-a-symbol-of-resilience-572703141.html). The ginkgo and persimmon were planted Oct. 3 with the help of Hideko (in yellow poncho). Chuck Roberts Park where the trees were planted is in a neighborhood leveled by wildfires that burned more than 2,350 homes to the ground in Talent and nearby Phoenix, leaving scenes of utter devastation.
